The first iPhone worm created by a 21 years old Australian Ashley Towns is now in the wild and attacking to jailbroken iPhone devices which have not been changed their root passwords from the default.
This iPhone worm just replaces the iPhone wallpaper with the picture of 1980′s pop singer Rick Astley and also displays a message as “Ikee is never gonna give you up”.
Ashley told in his interview to ABC News:
“When people jailbreak their phone, it allows them to install a service on their phone called SSH, generally you should always change your password after setting up on the iPhone as all iPhones use the same password. This virus pretty much exploits people’s laziness to change their password.”
Further he said:
“His efforts prove that anyone could easily hack into an iPhone. I think to raise awareness for one, somebody with more malicious intent could have done anything – read your SMSs, go through your emails, view your contacts, photos – anything”.
The infected iPhone finds the other near by vulnerable iPhone devices and then replicates the worm automatically. To avoid this worm the recommendation for jailbroken iPhone users is that they must change their root passwords as soon as possible otherwise their devices may also caught by any other serious problems.
