Microsoft said that it’ll support IE 6 until year 2014, four years beyond the original deadline. IE 6 was released in year 2001, and approximately 20% of web population is still using this version of Internet Explorer.

IE6 No More campaign was started over internet by more than 70 web developers group. Their argumentation regarding this campaign is that web developers are facing different problems while they use advanced technology and IE6 doesn’t provides proper support for that and create hurdles in their work.

One of the backers of the campaign said “We are passionate because we run a website and something like 10% of our users use IE6, but our web designers and developers have to spend a lot of time debugging for the platform.” So, they don’t want IE 6 anymore while there are many other advanced web browsers exist including IE8, Chrome, Firefox etc….

Even Microsoft is saying that it would prefer people to move to IE8, which comes with improved functionality and security but still it doesn’t allow to push IE 6 in dead hole, whereas Google Orkut dropped IE 6 support and took the initial step towards the rejection of Internet Explorer 6 version practically.
