Intel has officially announced that its upcoming next generation processor code name: Nehalem will be named as ‘Intel Core i7‘.

This next generation processor comes up with major changes in Intel’s processor technology and great improvements. This upcoming Intel Core i7 will be out in two flavors: Regular Core i7 and the Extreme Intel Core i7. Have a look at the logos available at the bottom.

Some features of this Core i7 tech are:

  • Dual-core and Quad-core mainstream processors
  • Point-to-point connections between the processor and peripherals using QuickPath interconnect system.
  • On-die memory controller
  • Faster speed by handling more than 4 threads at once
  • Advanced Hyperthreading technology will utilize the threads to do even more

Intel told us that “i7” was simply chosen because it is “short and sweet”.

Intel said that i7 would make sense down the road when additional new identifiers are introduced.

More information about this upcomming generation of intel processor is not available yet. Intel Core i7 will be launched in Q4 2008.
