Dr. Fehmida Mirza makes the history of Pakistan as she’s the 1st ever female elected for speaker of National Assembly. Israr Tareen was nominated for the position by the opposition.

Through secret ballot voting, out of 324 votes, Dr. Fehmida Mirza received 249 votes and opponent received 70 votes. Five votes were declared invalid.

Dr. Fehmida Mirza is wife of Dr Zulfiqar Ali Mirza, a close friend of Asif Ali Zardari. She has won the National Assembly seat in open electoral contest from Badin in 1997, 2002 and 2008.
