Mitsubishi Electric Corp. would pull out of its loss-making mobile phone business, an early casualty as Japan’s once-burgeoning cellular market grinds to a halt. Mitsubishi Electric was Japan’s No. 8 cell phone maker by revenue last year, with about a 4 percent share, according to BCN. But it’s not enough to keep the company in the business of mobile phones. Mitsubishi will stop manufacturing mobile phones by the end of this fiscal year. Mitsubishi thinks that it can get more business if it’ll invest capital elsewhere. The company said the move will result in Y17 billion one-time losses in the fiscal year to March, but said it would cover the loss through reforms and that the decision would not change its earnings forecast.
