In January 2008 the Bluetooth wireless (SIG) has celebrated Bluetooth technology’s 10 year anniversary of connecting electronic products. Bluetooth replaced cables with wireless technologies. With 10,000 members worldwide and nearly 2 billion devices, Bluetooth technology has really grown into a powerhouse in the wireless market.

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) was formed in 1998 with five companies Ericsson, Toshiba, IBM, Nokia and Intel. The technology got its unusual name in the honor of “Harald Bluetooth”, king of Denmark in the mid-tenth century. Bluetooth technology is now the preferred short range wireless solution worldwide. Member companies of the Bluetooth SIG are creating clever, exciting, cutting-edge products continuously.

About Bluetooth Technology

Bluetooth is a low-price radio chip to be plugged into devices. Bluetooth chip is designed to replace cables. It transmits data at a special frequency to a receiver Bluetooth chip, which will then give the information received to the computer, cell phone whatever. Bluetooth is a short range (less than 10 meters) wireless communications technology. Bluetooth technology uses radio frequencies to link up different devices e.g. laptops, printers, computers, headsets, cameras, cell phones, PDA’s and so many more. Bluetooth devices can transmit data and voice communication. Data can be exchanged at a rate of 1 megabit per second. When Bluetooth devices come in the range those automatically communicate without any special activation from users. If once Bluetooth devices strike-up a conversation, a personal-area network (PAN) or piconet will be created. Up to eight devices can be supported on a PAN at a time. The future of Bluetooth technology looks dazzling with its current progress.
